Education for Employment

Selected as one of five exemplary school-to-work transition programs in the nation, and personally recognized by President Clinton, Kalamazoo County's Education for Employment program is for all students.

Through cooperative efforts with area school systems, Kalamazoo Valley Community College a {Electromechanical} nd business and industry, Education for Employment provides today's students with the skills, abilities and knowledge needed to succeed.

At the elementary level, students are introduced to work-habit skills and begin exploring careers. Before high school, hands-on career development activities continue and all students develop an Educational Development Plan. During high school, more than 50 percent of the students in Kalamazoo County choose to specialize in occupational programs through school-based and worksite offerings. Education for Employment creates well-marked paths students can follow to move from school to work and from school to continued education and training. The system combines quality academic classes at school with hands-on learning and training in the workplace.

An Education for Employment task force identified the workplace skills and attitudes needed to succeed in {2007 Course Brochure} today's ever-evolving workplace. When young people leave high school with these skills, everybody wins. Employers find workers who are prepared for today's demanding jobs. The community is strengthened as productivity and standards improve. Education for Employment continues to grow as new programs are developed. We are proud of the quality standards we have set and accomplishments our students have made. Quality education produces quality students, prepared to function as a workforce ready to meet the challenges of a competitive, global economy.
