Kalamazoo RESA Bond Project

Kalamazoo RESA has launched this Web site section to provide information about the status of projects funded by the $25.4 million bond proposal that voters approved in November 2007. {Photo of teacher and student at Croyden Avenue School}
 
The success of this bond proposal is an important step forward for Kalamazoo RESA and the children, parents, communities and schools we serve. It will provide urgently needed space to teach special needs students from throughout Kalamazoo County.
 
The Projects:
  • Build a new facility to replace Croyden Avenue School, which serves Kalamazoo County students who have autism and severe cognitive and physical disabilities. The current building has surpassed capacity because of rapidly increasing enrollment and is in need of upgrades. The new facility
    will be built in a central location on property that Kalamazoo RESA owns on East
    Milham Avenue.
  • Renovate the existing Croyden building to house Kalamazoo RESA’s Young Adult Program (YAP) and Great Start early childhood programs. YAP currently shares limited space at the South Street building with Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU), and Great Start programs are now located in rented space at an outside facility that likely will not be available in future years.

The bond will require a property tax levy of 0.29 mills annually for 14 years. That equals a $19.58 yearly increase in property taxes for the owner of an average home in Kalamazoo County with a taxable value of $67,500 and a market value of $135,000.
