{Graphic} All public school districts in Kalamazoo County are now part of a single energy management program – a statewide distinction made possible by the use of collaborative consortiums.
Kalamazoo RESA, Portage Public Schools, Climax-Scotts Community Schools, Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools and Schoolcraft Community Schools recently formed a consortium and entered into contracts with
Energy Education Inc. The other five districts in Kalamazoo County – Comstock, Gull Lake, Kalamazoo, Parchment and Vicksburg – have been working with the firm for several years.
Energy Education Inc. delivers customized, comprehensive and people-driven energy conservation programs that focus on helping school districts and other organizations reduce their energy and water consumption. The firm’s energy conservation programs have saved more than $1.7 billion for public school districts.
Kalamazoo County is the only county in Michigan to have all of its school districts participating in the same energy management program.
An energy education specialist will track energy consumption – including electricity, water, sewer, natural gas and fuel oil – and implement conservation procedures in all facilities in each district. All costs of the program come from the districts’ existing utility budgets, with savings projected to more than pay for the program.
